Marimekko Winter 2024

On January 1st, the Finnish concept visited Copenhagen through the Marimekko Autumn/Winter 2024 show. As part of the last day of Copenhagen Fashion Week, Marimekko showed their latest artistic interpretations for the season.

Marimekko is a Finnish lifestyle design label recognized for genuine colors and patterns. The Nordic fashion company sells clothing, bags, and accessories, as well as decoration items such as linens and tableware.

The label born in 1951 from the Finnish couple Armi and Viljo Ratia. As a matter of fact, the name carries the Finnish word “mary-dress” as a symbol of women’s sophistication. The exceptional printed materials of the brand established a powerful and distinct personality. Because of the success of this concept, Marimekko plans to open 170 locations and sell online in 35 countries by 2024.

The collection

The Fall/Winter 2024 collection looks at the relationship between Unikko, a flower abstraction, and concrete structures and materials, which are frequently associated with a more practical attitude. Unikko is Marimekko’s most famous floral print, and this collection celebrates its 60th anniversary since conception.

The collection emphasizes the concept of wearing up and down. Evidently, elegant floral designs combine with practical elements in timeless dress silhouettes and hardworking daily needs. The collection features upscale materials such as soft cashmere, architectural 3D appliqué details, and bright metallics.

“For the Fall/Winter 2024 season, we create a captivating play between opposites: past and present, concrete and delicate, and the idea of dressing up and dressing down. The highlight of the show, in addition to celebrating the 60th anniversary of Unikko, is the upcoming launch of Marimekko Maridenim, which feels like the most natural continuity to Marimekko’s lifestyle offering. Throughout the year 2024, we continue to feature Unikko in dialogue with ideas and visual cues that are unexpected and even surprising"

Rich brown and burgundy tones combine with cement greys, warm blush, gentle pink tones, and snappy yellow accents. Furthermore, every item in the collection is designed to seamlessly transition from day to night, from everyday elegance to festiveness, showcasing how strong prints and colors can be worn to suit a variety of personalities, emotions, and circumstances.

At this season, Marimekko launched a new product category, Marimekko Maridenim, as part of the Fall/Winter 2024 collection. In fact, this new product is the company’s first jeans line. The jeans will be available in three types: straight, wide, and barrel leg, as well as two full looks featuring the iconic Unikko print.

The Maridenim collection follows the Jeans Redesign guidelines by using cotton with no stretch, of which 80 percent is organic cotton and 20 percent recycled cotton. The new set employs minimal hardware, such as removable buttons and no rivets. In conclusion, Maridenim represents a novel approach to the Finnish label, emphasizing the values of sustainability.
