Marimekko Summer 2025

On August 8, during the final day of CPFW, the Marimekko Spring/Summer 2024 collection brought the Finnish design to the Danish capital. At this occasion, the collection kept the patterns that made Marimekko a unique and “out-of-the-curve” brand. Here you will find all the details about the fashion show.

But first, let’s understand the artist… Marimekko is a Finnish lifestyle design brand recognized for genuine strong colors and minimalist patterns. The Nordic fashion company not only sells clothing, bags, and accessories; it also sells decoration items such as linens and tableware.

The design house was founded in 1951 by the Finnish couple Armi and Viljo Ratia. The origin of the name, in fact, carries the Finnish word “mary-dress.” This name and its significance are understood as a symbol of women’s sophistication and freedom. The genuine printed materials of the brand established a powerful and distinct personality. After more than 70 years in business, Marimekko is a multimillion-dollar company that offers more than items; it offers a lifestyle and a concept of viewing the world in a different way.

The collection

For this season, Marimekko’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection offers a wide range of minimalist and creative floral patterns designed by the prominent Marimekko designers Fujiwo Ishimoto, Maija Isola, and Lotta Maija. The collection designs include flowing layers, petal-like accents, and practical summer articles such as sets of lovely dresses and bags. The essence of this creative choice is reinforced by its creative director:

“Our fast-paced Spring/Summer 2025 runway show highlights the essence of the Marimekko dress as a non-restrictive garment to live in, even to run in. The collection showcases petal-like references in draping, layering, as well as in material characteristics"

The sets use a conventional and basic approach, paying homage to Marimekko’s signature style. This stylistic decision is full of pleasant contradictions: feminine floral shapes mixed with aggressive graphic patterns in watered-down aquatic blues, bright reds, and cold spearmints in the palette of colors.

Furthermore, Marimekko’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection features a limited-edition series that showcases four unique artworks by London-based Swedish artist Petra Börner. Marimekko’s own textile printing factory in Helsinki has translated her paintings into wearable art pieces. The limited-edition collection features carefully selected dress canvases that showcase Börner’s beautiful floral universe. Her distinctive technique of using colors as a backdrop for her line drawings creates a vivid piece, as you can see below.

Regarding the items, the collection featured 28 looks and dozens of new additions. The new horizon of options consists of dresses, jeans, jackets, and bags. Specifically, the designs of the bag and handbag align with the main garments and styles. The Spring/Summer 2025 collection additionally included the launch of Marimekko’s awaited denim line, Marimekko Maridenim, which features new patterned denim styles, including a denim jacket and shorts.

The fashion show took place in the park of the Copenhagen Opera, where guests sat in a field of wildflowers, enjoying the dynamic collection and energetic techno beats. Ultimately, the collection kept the DNA of Marimekko and expanded its creative options toward the designs that make it a genuine Nordic design house.
