Iris Van Herpen Couture Fall 2023
On July 3, the Dutch fashion designer Iris Van Herpen released “Architectonics’. Inspired by bionic and aquatic architecture, Iris Van Herpen Couture Fall 2023 is a new set of artistic expressions created through couture fashion.
In this collection, Iris was influenced by the projects of the French architect Jacques Rougerie and the Belgian architect Vincent Callebaut. These famous exponents of architecture are known for making livable projects in spaces that are not habitable nowadays, like the sea.
The main message that Iris created with this collection is to deliver an idea toward the next human frontier… the sea. 90% of the world’s most important cities are in flood-risk areas due to rising sea levels. As a result, Iris wanted to show the dystopic consequences that humans will have to live in or under water.
The crafting is unique, with 3D printing techniques that are not common to see on other labels. Iris is known for being a pioneer in new fashion designs, and this collection was no exception.
Blue, black, and white are the main color palettes. Most of the looks compose a symmetrical embroidered lines that recreate the waves form and sea life. Meanwhile, eco-friendly materials are the main resource for the dresses. Ecologism is one of Iris’s fashion pillars, and this collection still proves it.

To clarify, Iris Van Herpen Couture Fall 2023 is a conceptual collection, a collection for the sake of the artistic message. Because of this, most of the collection is not on retail sale.
However, Iris Van Herpen crafts most of the dresses personally and can make them wearable, depending on the willingness of the person who is going to use them.
