The opulence, class, and high society environment that the Savoy offered to its guests was unique. This essence inspired Gucci to return to his hometown, Florence, where he founded the Fashion House of Gucci. Thanks to this mindset, the collection have aimed to create an “Italian way” to express a fashion style inspired by British aesthetics and sophistication. This idea resulted in hundreds of casual pieces combined into 54 looks displayed on a runway created for the occasion.
Speaking about the occasion, the show took place at the Tate Modern. The Tate is an art gallery in London that houses the United Kingdom’s national collection of international modern and contemporary art created after 1900 (three years after Gucci started to work at the Savoy). Certainly, the location choice is a reflection of the collection’s concept and brand history.
The looks
The collection’s color palette consists on the contrast of strong colors and the differences between Italian and British styles. Brown, green, and white resemble the Mediterranean mindset, while black and grey resemble the British way. The clothing’s size primarily follows a casual design, without the exaggerated or strong brand patterns typical of previous Gucci collections.
The flower pattern, as much as a design or embroidery, dominates most of the looks, especially on shirts and jackets. Even though the collection presents a simple yet sophisticated look, the bags, accessories, and handbags deliver a striking contrast with the iconic Gucci logo.
